Celebrating 150 Years Of
The Cliff House At Pikes Peak

Cliff House

150 year celebration

June 10 of this year coincides with the 150th anniversary of the opening of The Cliff House. Edward Erastus Nichols purchased the hotel in 1876 following the failures of earlier developers, and he and his family operated the hotel into the mid 1940’s. Mr. Nichols’ great grandson, Ed Nichols III, will be on hand to help us celebrate 150 years of history in Manitou Springs, as well as the man responsible for the hotel’s total renovation following a devastating fire in 1982, Jim Morley of San Jose, California. As a way of recognizing, and in appreciation of their contributions, management is preparing for a weekend of fun, glitz, and glamour.

Beginning on Friday night, June 7, an elaborate night of dining and dancing will be offered. Two seatings for a specially prepared four course dining experience are offered and followed up with listening and dancing to the Pike’s Peak region’s own nine piece funk band “Collective Groove”. The event promises to be reminiscent of the grand galas thrown in the early days of Manitou’s history. Not to be outdone, Saturday’s festivities will be a follow-up to Friday, when the hotel will host a visit from Teddy Roosevelt (reenactor Kurt Skinner). Teddy will be our featured entertainment for a look back to his early 20th century escapades in Colorado. Meanwhile, guests will dine and drink during another spectacular multi-course dinner in our ballroom. He will offer guests a trip into history that they will not forget and be on hand all weekend for more fun on Sunday.
